Trudeau negotiating trade is Canada sending a boy to do a man’s job

By Letter to the Editor on January 12, 2018.

It would seem more timely if certain contributors to the News would enlighten readers with current events in Canada instead of being fixated with “old news,” American politics, especially bashing President Donald Trump to antiperistalsis. Or is everything perfect in Canadiana? I hardly think so.

Our Boy Wonder Trudeau was recently invited to China for formal bilateral talks including trade and investment. Whereupon in front of the media and Chinese leaders, he proceeded to lecture the Chinese on human rights, treatment of LGBTQ, etc.

Not smart! Important issues but not part of trade talks. He intimated that was a prerequisite to doing business with Canada.

The Chinese ushered him back to his sandbox in Ottawa. He came home with his tail between his legs with the feeble excuse that it takes a long time to do such deals with the Chinese. Really?

Fast forward to this week’s news.

French President Macron is invited to China for bilateral trade and investment talks. In a joint televised statement, the leaders of France and China announce hundreds of millions of dollars worth of business deals between the two countries.

China and France agreed to enhance finance, medical care, digital technology, and “green” urban development.

And it didn’t take “a long time.”

Trading off your daddy’s name, being a kindergarten teacher and bar bouncer does not qualify one to be a head of state and international wheeler and dealer. Who knew?

Moral of the story?

Don’t send a boy to do a man’s job.
