No matter the reason for drug addiction, help is needed; it’s not a life choice

By Letter to the Editor on November 24, 2017.

Why do people becomes drug addicts and why should we help them?

I keep on seeing comments in our newspaper about that. I would to like know that. What makes a person want to take drugs or alcohol in the first place to try to block out the pain of living in their day to day life? Is it family violence in their home? Is it stress at work?

What makes a person not care whether they live or die and turn them into a drug addict? What makes them not care? To me it doesn’t matter.

There is a human being who is in pain, who is lost, who needs help. If they have reached the point where they ask for help the we need to help them. It is that simple. It is not a life choice, it is often where life takes us.
