Grateful to those who made sacrifices so our country can remain safe

By Letter to the Editor on October 23, 2017.

When you see all the natural disasters and violence happening in the world, it makes one very grateful to live in the wonderful country of Canada. We have so much when so many other countries suffer poverty, hurricanes, sickness, etc.

Next month we will celebrate Remembrance Day where we remember those who fought and many died so we could live in this place we call Canada.

I read a long time ago about a school that took their students to a cemetery where they took a name off a soldier’s headstone and researched that soldier. From that, they came to know this person and his family. It gave them insight to the sacrifices both the soldier and their families made to ensure our freedom. I thought at the time it was a wonderful idea.

In today’s world, we have the advantage of the internet which provides so much more information on what actually happens when these men and women go “off to war,” giving out younger generation appreciation for what sacrifices these people have made for this great country we live in.

I am so grateful for the sacrifices these brave men and women have made and continue to make to keep our country safe. We must not fail to remember them on Nov. 11.

God bless you all.
