Hat hit a Little League home run

By Letter to the Editor on August 15, 2017.

I am writing to express our great appreciation for the hospitality, friendship and support displayed by the City of Medicine Hat, its citizens and the incredible volunteers who stepped up to the plate during our recent Canadian National Little League Baseball Championship.

Our local Little League representative, Candice Henson, assembled a dedicated team and was hard at work three years ago to ensure this event was worthy of its name. The City of Medicine Hat was an enthusiastic partner, as were the local media outlets. And one cannot forget to mention the local hero for whom the diamond is named: Lovell McDonnell, an incredible individual in so many ways. It was our great honour to formally recognize his work with our highest award for volunteers.

The business community also supported the tournament enthusiastically. All the teams involved expressed their appreciation for their stay at the Medicine Hat Lodge and the friendliness of restaurant staff and retailers throughout the city.

This was an experience of a lifetime for a group of young children who participated. They will remember with fondness their incredible 13 days in “the Hat.”

As the national body for Little League in Canada, our members and directors will also remember your expression of prairie hospitality at its finest and how warmly we were treated during our stay!
