As we begin a new year, we are looking ahead to a vibrant season of arts, heritage, and entertainment that reflects who we are as a community and what we value most.
Medicine Hat has long prided itself on being a place where creativity, history, and culture matter. From live performances and community festivals to historic places and cultural storytelling, arts and heritage help define our sense of place and bring people together across generations.
We look forward to hosting our inaugural Cultural Forum this year, which will bring together artists, cultural organizations, community partners, and residents to share ideas, build connections, and help shape the future of arts, heritage, and entertainment in our city.
This forum is an important opportunity to listen, collaborate, and ensure our cultural sector continues to grow in ways that reflect community voices and aspirations.
City council has also approved the development of a new Cultural Wall of Fame, to be installed at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre. This permanent feature will recognize individuals who have made lasting contributions to Medicine Hat’s cultural life, celebrating the creativity, leadership, and dedication that has shaped our community over time. Keep an eye out for how to nominate individuals.
The year ahead includes a dynamic lineup of events across our venues. Audiences can look forward to Calgary Opera’s Little Red Riding Hood at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre, the sharp wit of Jimmy Carr at Co-op Place, seasonal artwork installed in Police Point Park that will bring you closer to nature.
These all happen alongside the very many other performances, exhibitions, community celebrations, and sporting events that animate our city.
Together, we will continue to celebrate our past, support creativity in our community, and participate in a future where arts, heritage, and entertainment remain central to life in Medicine Hat.
