It has been almost a year and a half since we were able to provide you with an article. There has not been much that has happened. The Royal Canadian Mint has been closed, or limited staff, for part of the time, and therefore not as many new coins have been produced over this time. Also over the past 1.5 years, the use of handling cash has been reduced due to COVID, making it very difficult to find the coins you may be looking for, especially the 2020 and 2021. There have been some special colour and non-colour loonies and toonies distributed for circulation the last two years. They are: Loon – United Nations and Klondike, and in toonies is Bill Reid and Insulin. These coins also come in sets. The yearly sets of baby, birthday, wedding, congrats and holiday have been available for both years. The regular Unc, Specimen, and Proof sets for each year have also been available. The silver and gold bullion have been a hot commodity over the past year, and has made it difficult to find at times. You will soon see a new version of the $5 bill. It will be vertical like the last $10 bill issued. Although things have not been finalized yet it appears it will depict “Won Alexander Cumyou” who played a large role in the Chinese movement. However, the leading choice among the eight finalists was Terry Fox, who was the favourite among 57% of the 1,578 respondents. We have not been able to have our Spring and Fall Coin and Stamp Show the last two years, but have booked the events for next year on April 9 and Sept. 24, 2022. Our club has been starting to have limited meetings now with an all new program with updates on your latest coins and stamps, along with a presentation about various denominations. If you have any interest in coins or stamps we would welcome you to attend one of our meetings as a guest. The meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Victory Lutheran Church on Southview Drive behind the Shell service station on Dunmore Rd. Ron Schmidt. Collector’s Corner is contributed by the Medicine Hat Coin & stamp Club. For questions or comments about coin or stamp collection email medhatcsc@live.com 11
