Have you ever heard of Pecha Kucha? It is a storytelling format, where a presenter shows 20 slides for 20 seconds of commentary each (six minutes and 40 seconds total). At a PechaKucha Night, individuals gather at a venue to share personal presentations about their work or interests. I personally love the high turnover and variety of topics. It has helped me appreciate the strength and humanity of our community. Locally, here in Medicine Hat, they have been doing this for just over five years. My company, Swell Private Wealth, also launched just more than five years ago. It is neat timing since they asked me to speak tonight, June 8, at their 22nd Pecha Kucha, which will be held at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grounds, Pioneer Village Carriage House, starting at 8:20 p.m. The process of preparing for Pecha Kucha appears easy at first but when you are forced to condense your message into roughly six minutes you really can’t get everything done perfectly. Of course I will be sharing my passion for life insurance and my presentation is called “Are you flipping the coin on death and taxes.” The challenge of a short period of time made me think about my clients and how their daily time restraints affect their decisions about the insurance policies they proceed with. Although most people would like to have a robust insurance plan, they often focus on just a couple pieces of it at a time. Doing something is better than nothing, even if it was not perfect. I would suspect that if you were to review your own insurance plan you may find that it is not fully developed. Just like Pecha Kucha it is near impossible to do it all at once. The point is that you have started and have a foundation that you can build upon. You may have to do some follow up to gather more details about your existing plans and potential opportunities. The average person purchases insurance seven different times in their life. You don’t have to go on the journey alone. Treat your current insurance plan as a start and reach out to an insurance specialist, such as a CLU® (Chartered Life Underwriter) to help guide you. Again, like Pecha Kucha, you may have hit the high points but there is a lot more to follow. I hope to see you tonight or feel free to watch for it via our social media this coming week.
