It’s that time of year again! May 6 through May 12 is Mental Health Week, which is a time where we celebrate, educate and find ways to improve our mental health. Mental health is just as important as physical health and is something everyone possesses. Furthermore, there are various ways we can enhance our mental fitness, and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has released an amazing learning tool with 16 strategies to help you thrive. These strategies include: – Starting the day off fresh – Focusing on the positives – Getting outdoors – Seeing the bigger picture – Treating yourself – Embracing culture – Being active – Using your personal resources – Learning – Finding meaning – Enjoying yourself – Connecting – Disconnecting – A moment just to rest – Time out to breathe – Nature While these are only a few of the ways we can improve our mental health, the list is truly endless. Since mental health is something we all have, we all have an opportunity to learn and try new things to keep ourselves mentally fit and happy. Enhancing mental wellness, although can seem like a daunting task, is actually something we are all capable of. Some other simple ways include eating healthy, laughing and meditating. Trying new things can also be intimidating, so finding people to support you is another great option to keep motivated and encouraged to participate in new activities. We can also support each other in improving mental health not only for ourselves, but for our community as well. Encouraging and supporting each other without judgement creates an environment where people can be mentally happy and healthy.
