A B.C. man is using pedal power to raise money and awareness for what he calls men’s issues.

Dave Podmoroff began bicycling from Vancouver’s Spanish Banks beach on July 7 and has a goal of making it to Point Pleasant Park in Halifax by the middle of September. Podmoroff, spent the night of July 18 in Medicine Hat.

“I’m just a guy trying to make a difference of non-epic proportions, the guy that’s going to start the conversation,” he said during his stop in the area.

Podmoroff says the money raised on his Men Matter Coast to Coast ride will go to Testicular Cancer Canada, but he wants to start a conversation about a whole host of issues.

“Things tough guys don’t want to talk about like depression and mental illness,” he said.

Support for the ride in its early days came primarily from women, Podmoroff says. He’d like to see more support from men and from leaders in typically male-dominated industries.

He’s steadily seen support rise as his ride has made it into Saskatchewan and this will grow quickly kilometre by kilometre. Anyone who wants to ride with him for a while is more than welcome, Podmoroff said, adding he’d welcome the chance for speaking engagements along the way.
