QMJHL roundup: Cataford nets winner, Oceanic edge Mooseheads 4-3

HALIFAX – Mathieu Cataford’s goal at 16:18 of the third period snapped a 3-3 deadlock and lifted the visiting Rimouski Oceanic to a 4-3 win over the Halifax Mooseheads in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action on Sunday.

The Oceanic, who trailed 3-1 early in the third period, also got goals from Alexandre Blais, Pavel Simek and Mathys Dube to improve to 3-3.

Logan Crosby, Antoine Fontaine and Owen Phillips scored for the Mooseheads, who slipped to 5-2.

The Mooseheads led 1-0 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third. The hosts went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Oceanic were 0-for-2. The visitors outshot the Mooseheads 38-21, including 19-6 in the final period.

Darien Reynolds and Olivier Duhamel scored once for the Sea Dogs (4-3), who trailed 1-0 after the first period and 3-2 heading into the third.

SYDNEY, N.S. – Louis-Antoine Denault stopped 27 shots as the visiting Quebec Remparts blanked the Cape Breton Eagles 5-0.

MONCTON, N.B. – Markus Vidicek had a goal and assist as the Moncton Wildcats beat the visiting Charlottetown Islanders 4-1.

Gabe Smith, Vincent Collard and Julius Sumpf also scored for the Wildcats (4-1-1-0), who led 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 heading into the third.

Egor Goriunov scored for the Islanders (2-5-0-1), who were outshot 35-25.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. – Felix Lacerte had a goal and assist and netminder Felix Hamel made 27 saves as the Shawinigan Cataractes defeated the visiting Victoriaville Tigres 4-2.

Matvei Gridin, Jiri Klima and Louis-Philippe Fontaine also scored for the Cataractes (3-3), who led 1-0 after the first period but were tied 2-2 heading into the third. Vince Elie had two assists for the hosts.

Justin Larose and Samuel Kingsley scored for the Tigres (2-4). Justin Gendron chipped in with two assists.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. – Felix Gagnon scored twice and added an assist as the Chicoutimi Sageuneens defeated the visiting Drummondville Voltigeurs 6-3.

Maxim Masse, Emmanuel Vermette, Jonathan Prud’homme and Kassim Gaudet also scored for the Sagueneens (4-1-1-0), who trailed 1-0 after the first period but led 4-3 heading into the third.

Hugo Dufour, Maxime-Olivier Drolet and Marc-Olivier Beaudry scored for the Voltigeurs (4-1-0-1), who were outshot 38-30.
