Canada’s Howden, Schmidt win World Cup ski cross gold on home snow

NAKISKA, ALTA. – Canada’s Reece Howden and Hannah Schmidt both won ski cross World Cup gold Saturday.

Howden of Cultus Lake, B.C., posted his first win this season ahead of men’s runner-up Terence Tchiknavorian of France and bronze medallist Fiva Alex of Switzerland.

Schmidt, of Ottawa, collected her second victory this season. Teammate Marielle Thompson of Whistler, B.C., was second while Fanny Smith of Switzerland was third.

Another World Cup ski cross is scheduled for Sunday at Nakiska Ski Area west of Calgary.
