Firebirds earn 6-3 comeback win over Greyhounds in OHL action

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – Zacharie Giroux scored two goals in kick-starting a run of five unanswered as the Flint Firebirds earned a 6-3 comeback win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Wednesday.

Tristan Bertucci and Braeden Kressler each contributed a goal and an assist, with Jeremy Martin and Nathan Aspinall also chipping in a goal apiece for Flint (4-6-0). Nathan Day made 36 saves.

Connor Clattenburg, Brenden Sirizzotti and Justin Cloutier replied for Sault Ste. Marie (7-5-0). Landon Miller stopped 20-of-24 shots.

After Martin opened the scoring 2:43 into the first period, the Greyhounds scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 edge by the 11:43 mark of the second.

However, the Firebirds turned it around. Giroux scored once in the second and another in the third period to start the run of five unanswered goals, capped off by Kressler’s empty-net marker with 20 seconds left in the game.
