WHL Roundup: Meneghin shines as Hurricanes take 3-2 shootout win over Rebels

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Harrison Meneghin stopped all three shots in the shootout, Noah Chadwick scored the lone goal and the Lethbridge Hurricanes defeated the Red Deer Rebels 3-2 on Friday.

Tyson Zimmer and Logan Wormald scored in regulation for Lethbridge (11-8-0-1). Meneghin made 35 saves between regulation and overtime.

Jayden Grubbe and Mats Lindgren replied for Red Deer (16-3-0-2). Kyle Kelsey stopped 33-of-35 shots in regulation and overtime, along with one save in the shootout.

Lindgren opened the scoring 2:40 into the first period before Zimmer answered, followed by Wormald who gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead midway through the second. Grubbe’s goal 1:07 into the third sent the contest to overtime.

PORTLAND, ORE. – Aidan Litke, Ryder Thompson and Robbie Fromm-Delorme each scored a goal and added one assist as Portland (15-1-1-1) outduelled Everett (12-7-0). Jack O’Brien added the other while Dante Giannuzzi stopped 27-of-28 shots for the Winterhawks.

KENNEWICK, WA. – Tyson Greenway capped a two-goal effort scoring the game-winning goal in overtime as Tri-City (7-11-0) edged Calgary (10-5-1-1) in a tightly-contested battle. Greenway also netted the game-tying goal 7:44 into the third period.

SASKATOON – Egor Sidorov netted the game-winning goal 1:11 into overtime to lift Saskatoon (15-4-0) past Medicine Hat (6-9-4-1). Brendan Lee sent the game to overtime for the Tigers, scoring 3:56 into the third period, shortly after Brandon Lisowsky made it 3-2 for the Blades.

WARRIORS 5 BRONCOS 4

MOOSE JAW, SASK. – Jagger Firkus led the way with two goals as Moose Jaw (12-8-0) held off a comeback effort from Swift Current (9-10-0) to win. The Warriors held a 5-1 lead 1:05 into the third period before the Broncos made a push scoring three unanswered goals.

LANGLEY, B.C. – Logan Stankoven scored one goal and added two assists as Kamloops (8-4-2-1) handily defeated Vancouver (7-8-2-2). Dylan Ernst stopped 21-of-22 shots in the victory for the Blazers.

ROCKETS 10 CHIEFS 3

KELOWNA, B.C. – Marcus Pacheco, Andrew Cristall and Colton Dach each notched two goals and two assists as Kelowna (7-8-1) cruised past Spokane (4-12-0-1). Turner McMillen, Gabriel Szturc, Max Graham and Grady Lenton added the others for the Rockets.

COUGARS 9 ROYALS 1

VICTORIA – Hudson Thornton recorded three goals and three assists as Prince George (11-9-0) dominated Victoria (3-15-3) en route to victory. Keaton Dowhaniuk, with two goals, Chase Wheatcroft, Caden Brown, Viliam Kmec and Cole Dubinsky also scored for the Cougars.
