Medicine Hat’s Elic Ayomanor got his NFL Draft moment Saturday and made local history in the moment.

The former Medicine Hat High Hawk and Stanford wide receiver was selected 136th by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, becoming the first Medicine Hat product to be drafted into the National Football League.

“It was a long wait, definitely had some emotions going through all of it,” Ayomanor said during a conference call posted by the Titans. “But me and my agent and my family always say, fit over pick, so I really do think this is a good spot to be at … I am really excited to be here and prove my worth.”

He spoke about being selected in the fourth round and having to wait to hear his name during the NFL Draft weekend.

“It’s just something you have to channel the emotions in and add it to the preparation you do going forward,” Ayomanor said. “I don’t think you’re defined by, and I defiantly won’t be defined by where I was drafted. I’m going to make sure I do everything I can to prove that to myself.”

Ayomanor was born in Medicine Hat and came up through Hat High before transferring to Peddie School in New Jersey for one year. He finished his last two years of high school at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., before he committed to Stanford University in 2021. He redshirted with Stanford in 2022.

He made his NCAA debut with the Cardinals in 2023, recording 62 catches with six touchdowns for 1,013 yards, winning the 2023 Jon Cornish Trophy as the top Canadian player in the NCAA. He holds the Stanford record for receiving yards in a game.

In his second season on the field with Stanford, Ayomanor recorded six touchdowns with 63 catches and 831 yards. He declared for the NFL Draft on Dec. 21, 2024.

When he suits up in his first NFL game, Ayomanor will join Daniel Federkeil as the two Medicine Hat products to play in the NFL.

Federkeil was drafted fifth overall by the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in 2006 but signed with the Indianapolis Colts shortly after. He won Super Bowl XLI with the Colts in 2007. After four seasons in the NFL, Federkeil retired from pro football before signing with the Calgary Stampeders in 2013. He retired in 2018.

The News contacted Ayomanor for an interview but received no response.
