Softball roundup: U11 Thunder Black pick up two wins over weekend

The Medicine Hat U11 Thunder Black picked up two wins in their weekend of softball action.

The U11 black won two of four games and had a tie as well across their two-day slate.

They opened the weekend with a 6-1 win Saturday over the U11 Brooks Bombers. No stats were available for the game.

They followed it up with a 6-6 tie later in the day with the U11 Thunder Heat.

Elisabeth Switzer led the offence with two RBIs, recording a hit and a run scored. Ella Munro tallied two hits, recording an RBI and a run scored.

The Thunder sent four pitchers to the mound in their four-inning game, with Leighton Moon starting the game, recording three strikeouts in her inning of work. Kyler Geddes-Martin worked the second frame, punching out two batters in her inning pitched. Switzer had one strikeout in the third inning and Emily Gergely also recorded a strikeout in the fourth inning.

The Thunder Black’s only loss of the weekend came Sunday morning, a 12-11 loss in a rematch with Lethbridge.

Gergely had three RBIs with two hits and two runs scored and Munro knocked in two RBIs with two hits, also scoring a run.

Scarlet Leahy started the game for the Thunder and Harlyn Schimpf took over to record a strikeout in her inning of work. Maci-Rae Wotherspoon had two strikeouts in an inning pitched and Jaelie Varner also recorded two strikeouts.

They wrapped up the weekend with a 6-3 win over the U11 YYC. Kletzel had two hits with an RBI and a run scored. All three of Switzer, Munro and Varner had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

The Thunder sent four pitchers to the bump in their four-inning game. Munro started the game with two strikeouts in her frame of work and Marlee Collier continued the effort, punching out two batters in her inning. Moon worked the third frame with a strikeout and Geddes-Martin had three strikeouts in her inning on the mound.

Thunder Red

The U11 Thunder Red had two games on Saturday, dropping both contests.

They lost the first game, falling 16-2 to the U11 Adrenaline Herbert.

Madison B had two hits and Harper N tallied a hit with an RBI and a run scored. (No last names were available).

Alexis M started the game and recorded five strikeouts in two innings pitched. Harlo G worked 1.2 innings, with three strikeouts. Julie G finished the game with a strikeout in two thirds of a frame.

The Thunder lost a rematch with the Adrenaline, falling 14-7.

Harlo G had four RBIs with two hits and two runs scored. Harper N tallied two hits with an RBI and a run scored. Julie G also had an RBI with a hit and a run scored.

Trinity R pitched the whole game game, recording two strikeouts.

U13

The Medicine Hat U13 Thunder Black had four games over the weekend, picking up one win.

They lost their first game, falling 16-6 to the Lethbridge Heat on Saturday.

Farren C had three RBIs with a hit and Nellie C tallied two RBIs with a hit and a run scored (no last names provided).

Nellie C started the game and had four strikeouts in two innings of work. Madelyn U worked a frame with a strikeout.

The Thunder lost their second game Saturday, falling 19-1 to the Innisfil Hawks. Calico J had a hit with a run scored.

Hadley V started the game and had three strikeouts in two innings pitched. Kendyl M had five strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.

They picked up a win in their first game Sunday, beating Strathmore 15-10.

Kendyl M and AJ S each had two hits with two RBIs and two runs scored. Breanna L tallied three runs scored with two hits and an RBI. Nellie C worked all 2.2 innings on the mound, with four strikeouts.

They finished the weekend with a 16-11 loss to the Calgary 3.

Olivia F had two hits with an RBI and Breanna L had two runs scored with an RBI and a hit.

Olivia F also started the game, recording two strikeouts in an inning of work. Madelyn U had a punch out in her two thirds of an inning.
