High school softball teams recognized their own Thursday evening.

All eight of the high school softball teams in Medicine Hat honoured their graduating players ahead of their respective games.

The Eagle Butte Talons Team 1 honoured seven graduating players ahead of their game against the Oyen Scorpions, Emerson Baugh, Tayler Cohen, Maddison Andrew, Ryann Plaksey, Keyana Bert, Kiyra Kletzel and Serenna Miller.

Talons-1 head coach Scott Kelly says seniors night was something they started this season and he was happy they could give back to their oldest players.

“They’re kind of bashful about it, but they’ve played lots of different sports and this is one that they will finish in Grade 12,” Kelly said. “It’s great to acknowledge them and they all had a little smile on their face when they came out in the field. I’m appreciative of the people who organized it.”

The celebrations included the opposing teams as well, with seniors from Bassano and Oyen joining in on the honours.

“It’s cool that Oyen is part of our association, it’s a two-hour drive and they’re here every Thursday night,” Kelly said. “They have a couple of games and they’ve got a young team but they did have a player that’s aging out this year and it was special for her and her family and it’s great to have this done.”

The Talons-2 team recognized four seniors ahead of their game against the McCoy Colts Team 2, who had one senior. Addison Eurich, Brianne Finke, Cam Burgevitz and Maddy Ferguson were honoured in the Eagle Butte teal and Sarah Votto was honoured on the Colts.

The McCoy Team 1 had three seniors get their roses in Abbi Ulmer, Karli Koch and Taylor Coroy. The Crescent Heights Vikings Team 1 had one senior, Hannah Thompson, who was recognize before their game against Bassano who had four seniors.

The Vikings Team 2, who honoured four seniors (Rina Yackulic, Carrie Phillips, Nyla Lunn and Mattea Defreese, faced the Colts Team 1 later in the evening.

The Medicine Hat High Hawks Team 1 played Oyen after Eagle Butte did, and honoured their two seniors: Madison Zinke and Albany Mastel. The Hawks Team 2 played Bassano after Crescent Heights and recognized their four senior players: Eva Chartrand, Gracie Kradovill, Grace Smith and Emmanuella Olowojolu.
