McCoy’s JV Colts open season with split against Holy Trinity

The Monsignor McCoy Colts JV baseball team opened their SAHSBL Tier 1 season Saturday.

The Colts spilt a doubleheader at Athletic Park against Holy Trinity Academy from Okotoks.

Nixon Kunkel started the first game on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight batters.

Jayden Mook pitched the final three innings, striking out seven batters to earn the win as the JV Colts broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Offensively the McCoy JV squad was lead by Ethan Grad with two hits and Mook who also had two hits including the game-winning RBI when his base hit scored Kunkel for the 5-4 walk-off victory.

Their second game of the day was another close battle with the HTA Hawks, who beat the JV Colts 9-7. Owen Fisher, Aaron Recio and Dylan Nelson each pitched two innings for the JV Colts. Nelson and James Cole lead the offence with two hits, one run and one RBI a piece.

The McCoy JV team had a doubleheader Tuesday against the Eagle Butte High School Talons.
