Minor hockey roundup: U13AA Hounds pick up three points over weekend

The Medicine Hat U13AA Hounds picked up a win and a tie in a three-game weekend.

The Hounds beat the East Kootenay Avalanche 4-3 Friday and followed that up later in the day with a 6-6 tie with the Okotoks Oilers. They lost 5-3 Saturday to the Wheatland Braves.

Cooper Danroth scored twice in Friday’s win, Hudson Gilchrist added a goal and an assist and Carter Jarvis scored as well. Lincoln Bensler had three assists and Colson Neigum had 23 saves.

In their 6-6 draw, Kovann Chisholm and Jarvis each had two goals and two assists and Nash Davis scored twice as well. Hunter Munro and Neigum split duties in net with a combined 31 saves.

Jarvis scored twice in Saturday’s loss and Danroth added a solo marker, Munro made 35 saves.

U17

The U17AAA South East Athletic Club Tigers split the final weekend of their regular season. The Tigers lost 7-2 Saturday to the Calgary Flames and answered back with a 5-2 win Sunday over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Treyden Kleinknecht and Colby Gulliver scored in Saturday’s loss and Kolter Gans made 42 saves.

In Sunday’s win, Elijah Fleck led the way with two goals and all three of Karter Kurpjuweit, Grady Ford and Ryker Watson had a goal and an assist. Kayne Wright made 28 saves in the win.

The U17AAA Tigers (20-13-1) have a best-of-three series with the Okotoks Oilers this week, with Game 1 Wednesday at Okotoks and Game 2 at the Hockey Hounds Arena on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. If needed, Game 3 is back at Okotoks on Sunday.

U18

The U18AA Hounds had five games over the weekend, with a 5-1 win Thursday over the Golden Suns, a 9-6 loss Friday afternoon to the Okotoks Oilers, a 3-0 shutout win over the Foothills Bisons later that day, a 3-2 victory over the East Kootenay Avalanche on Saturday and a 4-3 loss Sunday to the Oilers.

Owen Gustafson and Blake Doesenberger each had a goal and an assist in the win Thursday with Everett Life, Jaxon Scrivener and JR Howe scoring solo markers. Adam Ranger made 20 saves.

In the 9-6 loss to Okotoks, Gustafson and Nolan Sutherland each scored twice and both Ethan Hall and Quade VanderSpruit added a goal. Parker McLaughlin made 40 saves.

Ranger made 30 saves in the shutout win Friday night, with Treyson Girletz, Everett Liefso and Sutherland each tallying a goal.

In their 3-2 win Saturday, Hayden Gebhart, Hall and Dosenberger each scored and both of Girletz and Sutherland had two assists. Ranger made 35 saves.

Girletz led the offence in Sunday’s loss with two goals. Sutherland added a solo tally and Ranger made 49 saves.
