Cubs win Game 3, sweep second round

The Medicine Hat Cubs took care of business Wednesday night.

The Cubs beat the Coaldale Copperheads 5-2 to sweep their second best, best-of-5 series 3-0.

Coaldale opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period, with Koden Lazar capitalizing on a power play 8:35 into the frame.

Medicine Hat answered back with a three-goal second period.

Braden Patey scored with 5:32 left in the middle period, with Keynan Cairns recording an assist. Just 2:10 later, Perret Harty scored with Josh Drefs and Darnell Glasgo recording the helpers.

The Cubs offence was rounded off by a goal from captain Callen Prosofsky at the 16:56 mark, their third goal in a span of 2:28, Jacob Hazzard had the lone assist on his goal.

Coaldale answered back in the third with a goal from Peyton Twigg 6:19 into the frame. The Cooperheads pulled the goalie late and both Glasgo and Drefs scored on the empty frame, securing the 5-2 win,

Cubs net minder Tyler Wakelam made 26 saves, across the ice from him, the Copperheads goaltender Nixon Ordway made 45 saves.

The Cubs await their third round opponent, with that series tentatively set to get underway on Sunday.
