Ringette roundup: U19 Live Wire open play downs with pair of victories

Medicine Hat’s U19 Live Wire kicked off their provincial ringette play downs in winning fashion.

The Live Wire beat Lethbridge 8-7 in a back-and-forth affair on Saturday.

They led 5-4 at the half before Lethbridge tied it up at 7-7. Sophie Kerr’s solo marker was the game winner and the rest of the Live Wire offence came from Hannah Thompson with three goals, Kayla Robinson with a pair of goals and both Bella Heinrichs and Grace Ammann each scoring.

They carried the momentum later in the day with a 12-2 victory over Airdrie.

Robinson had four goals, Kasey Martin had three goals, Avery Weisgerber and Ammann each had two markers, and Natash Unreiner added a goal as well.

Kyree Stern-Rebmann stood tall in net for both games.

U16

The Mercury travelled for their first two playdown games of the season.

In their first game against the Indus Rise, the Mercury lost with no score reported.

They met the Cochrane Rockies in their second game and came out on top with a 10-5 win.

All 11 skaters found the goal sheet this game with Jayna Allchurch tallying three goals and an assist.

Ryleigh Jackiw had two goals and four assists, Maren Berstad had two goals, two assists, Margot Kerr added an assist with two goals and Leighton Wright scored a solo marker with an assist. Sloane Berstad and Eden Schmunk each had three helpers.

They look to continue their success next weekend when they travel back to Calgary for their next two playdown.

U10

The U10 Step 3 Gators were in action on home ice this weekend for their final league games, hosting the Airdrie Sting.

The Gators fell in the first game to the Sting 9-2. Aphten Myram made 26 saves between the pipes and Zayda Dawson and Brylee Dirk had a goal each.

With their rematch against the Sting, the Gators ultimately lost 6-1. Zoe Aarden stood tall in net making 31 saves and the lone goal was scored by Sloan Loehndorf.

The Step 3 season ends early March with a final tournament in Lethbridge.

The U10 step 2 Gators hosted Rockyford this weekend, picking up one win.

Ridley Trotter allowed only two goals in the first game with both Kylee Drever and Blaire Dirk each scoring twice and Jayla-bRay Klaudt and Adelynn McKinley notching a goal each.

Kate Langston started in net for the second game, with the offence coming from Dirk, Maizee Trotter and Jayla-Ray Klaudt tallying a goal each.

No scores were reported from the Step 2 Gators. They host Okotoks on Saturday.
