SAHA U18 men win three of four over weekend

The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 men’s team had a winning weekend on the road.

SAHA played four games in a fast-paced set, with a 3-1 win Friday over the Burnaby Winterclub, 6-3 victory Saturday over the Yale Hockey Academy and 4-2 win Sunday over Shawnigan Lake. They dropped their final game, falling 4-1 to the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy on Monday.

Friday’s win was led by Marek Schlenker’s 22 saves. Nate Yellowaga had a goal and an assist, and Landon

Marleau and Noah Derouin added one goal each.

Josiah Jackson had two goals Saturday in the win over Yale, with Wellowaga and

Cash Olson each adding a goal and an assist.

Brayden Ryan-Mackay and Trip Jensen both scored in the win, and Ben Pohill made 45 saves.

Against Shawnigan Lake on Sunday, Ryan-Mackay tallied a goal and an assist and all three of Carter Cunningham, Marleau and Jensen scored. Schelnker had 36 saves.

In Monday’s loss, Will Bell scored and Pohill made 28 saves.

The U18 SAHA men’s team (14-9-1) are on the road for two games this weekend.

U18 women

SAHA’s women’s team had two games against Edge, falling 2-0 Saturday and 3-2 on Sunday.

Taylor Cohen made 29 saves in Saturday’s loss. On Sunday, Maddy Ferguson turned aside 24 shots and both Keyana Bert and Addison Eurich found the back of the net.

SAHA’s women (10-11) are off until Feb. 16 when they open up a three-game weekend at the Big Marble Go Centre.

U17

SAHA’s U17 men were on the road for four games this weekend, falling 7-3 Friday to RINK Winnipeg, a 3-1 win Saturday over Coeur a’Alene, a 3-0 shutout over Rink Kelowna Red and a 6-4 loss Monday to St. George’s School.

Garrison Peck, Ty Hynes and Koen Gauthier each scored for SAHA in Friday’s loss, with Mattias Radke and Steven Wawryk splitting duties in net for a combined 31 saves.

Gauthier had two goals with an assist Saturday over Coeur d’Alene. Theron Bensler and Kingston Chisholm each tallied a goal and an assist and Eastyn Dimond found the back of the net as well. Wawryk made 27 saves.

Radke recorded the shutout Sunday with 31 saves, with Peck notching a goal and two assists. Bensler and Ty Wasyluk each scored a goal.

In Monday’s loss, Chisholm scored twice with an assist and both Ty Krooshoop and Eastyn Dimond found the back of the net. Wawryk made 34 saves.

SAHA’s U17 men (14-13-11) have three games this weekend at the Big Marble Go Centre, hosting the Edge School Gold on Friday at 7:45 p.m., Saturday at 3:15 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
