Hat High Hawks basketball sweeps Cardston

The Medicine Hat High Hawks basketball teams took care of business against the Cardston Cougars.

All four of the Hawks basketball teams swept the Cougars in their action on Saturday at Hat High.

The Hawks JV Girls team opened the day with a 64-57 win. Ava Dyck emerged as the standout performer, leading the JV Girls with 10 points and picking up rebounds to secure the win.

In the second game, the MHHS JV Boys continued the winning trend by beating Cardston 85-78 in a closely contested match. The Hawks showcased their depth, with five players reaching double digits for points. Hayden Van Maarion led the charge with 16 points, while Matthew Getz contributed 15 points.

In the third game of the series, the senior girls team engaged in a defensive battle against Cardston, coming out on top 40-30. Mckenzie Giesbrecht led the Sr. Hawks with nine points, while Ana Zayas chipped in eight points.

The senior girls play next at home on Feb. 23 against Catholic Central for their senior night.

In the final game of the night, fans witnessed a dominating senior boys performance against the Cardston Cougars. MHHS set the tone, scoring 78 points in the first half, ultimately securing a 131-82 victory. Seven players showcased their offensive prowess scoring in double digits, with Kyle Bertram leading the charge with 23 points and Arinze Aniagu adding 19.

The senior boys’ win adds to their strong start to the season, carrying a 12-1 record. They sit in first place in the SAIAC league, and are gearing up for their next challenge as they play at home against LCI next on Jan. 30.
