Medicine Hat’s U19 Live Wire ringette team picked up their third gold medal of the season over the weekend.
The Live Wire captured gold at the Jim Benning tournament in Regina, going undefeated in their five games.
The opened the tournament with a 6-1 victory over the Regina Raiders.
Kasey Martin had two goals to lead a depleted lineup. Hannah Thompson, Mackenzie Tindall, Sophie Kerr and Natasha Unreiner all added single markers and Kyree Stern-Rebmann only allowed the one goal.
They were in full control in their second game, beating a Manitoba team 11-0. Kayla Robinson, Martin and Tindall each scored two goals with Thompson, Kerr, Alex Unreiner, Avery Weisgerber and Brooklyn Schlenker each adding a single marker.
Stern-Rebmann earned the shutout in net.
In their third game, first on Saturday, the Live Wire beat Winnipeg 9-2. Weisgerber and Robinson tallied two goals each, with Tindall, Kam Reid, Natasha Unreiner, Grace Amman and Brooklyn Schlenker all finding the back of the net.
They finished their pool play with a 6-6 tie to the BP Wild. The Live Wire led 6-4 late before two late goals made it a draw, still securing the top seed in their pool. Thompson again had two goals, Robinson, Weisgerber, Tindall and Natasha Unreiner had a goal each.
The Live Wire beat the BP Blitz in the finals, with a 7-4 win. Sophie Kerr led Live Wire with a hat trick while Thompson, Robinson, Ammann and Bella Heinrichs added singles.
The Live Wire’s season record sits at 20-1-2 and they are in action again Saturday against Bow View.
U16
The U16 Mercury were in Airdrie for a set of games over the weekend.
They won their first game 4-2, with Leighton Wright and Ryleigh Jackiw each scoring twice. Margot Kerr and Autym Heidinger each had two helpers.
They also won their second game, with a 7-4 vocoder despite a short bench.
Kerr scored twice and each of Wright, Eden Schmuk, Erika Want, Jackiw and Maren Berstad found the back of the net. Jackiw had three assists as well.
The Mercury have a couple weekends off before hosting Indus Lightning on Jan. 28 at the Moose with games at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
U12
The U12C Royals had two games over the weekend against the Indus Golden Cheeto, dropping both contests. They lost 6-3 in the first game, Arika McDowall had all of Medicine Hat’s offence.
They lost the second game 10-4. Jorja Sadler scored twice for the Royals with Rielle Forsyth and AP Charlee Lowe each finding the back of the net.
Grace Stirling was in net for both games
U10
The U10 step 2 Gators had two home games Sunday against Airdrie. Katie Landon was in goal for the first time. Between the two games, the Gators had Kylee Drever notch five goals and Jayla-Ray Klaudt tally four goals.
The Step 2 Gators will travel to Airdrie and Rockford next weekend and are in Strathmore at the end of the month.
The U10 Step 1 Gators played two home games against Strathmore and Rockyford. Hudson, Avery, Hailey each scored and Memphis tallied her first.
They head to Airdrie for two games next weekend.
