Minor hockey roundup: U13AA Hounds sweep first weekend of action in 2024

The Medicine Hat U13AA Hounds opened up their new year in winning fashion.

The Hounds were undefeated over the weekend, with a 4-4 tie Saturday against the East Kootenay Avalanche before beating them 6-3 on Sunday.

Three skaters led the Hounds in the tie, with Nash Davis, Carter Jarvis and Brea Guest each notching a goal and an assist. Tyson Kienzle had two helpers and Kovann Chisholm had a goal of his own.

Colson Neigum had 20 saves.

In Sunday’s win, Jarvis had two goals and an assist and Chisholm had three assists. Hudson Gilchrist and Lincoln Steinkey each had a goal and an assist and both of Davis and Macen Ibach had a goal. Hunter Munro had 24 saves.

The U13AA Hounds (14-7-2) have two home games this weekend, hosting the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday and Sunday.

U15

The U15AAA South East Athletic Club Tigers took two of three games over the weekend.

The Tigers’ only loss of the weekend came in their first game, an 8-1 defeat to the South Side Lions on Friday. Rhyder Arndol had the Tigers lone goal and Paxton Smigelski made 28 saves.

On Saturday the Tigers beat the Sherwood Park Flyers 5-4. Illya Khazov, Madden Wright and Carson Ward each had a goal and an assist, and both Lucas Fisher and Ethan Grad had a goal. Sasha Shushkov made 32 saves.

SEAC wrapped up the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over the Calgary Northstars. Liam Green scored a solo marker and Rhyder Arnold had two goals, including the game winner. Shushkov made 49 saves in the win.

The U15AAA Tigers (5-12-2) have two games this weekend, hosting the Maple Leaf Scott Pump on Sunday.

The U15AA SEAC Tigers also had a winning weekend, with a 5-2 victory Friday over the East Kootenay Avalanche before tying them 4-4 on Saturday.

Cole Siewert, Jude Martin, Creed Geekie, Alexander Schabler and George Maser all scored in Friday’s win, and Conner Aldag made 56 saves.

Martin led the offence in Saturday’s draw, tallying two goals. Both Maser and Dane Friedt had two assists each, Siewert and Schabler added a goal each. Jake Druar made 31 saves.

The U15AA Tigers (11-7-3) have two road games this weekend.

U16

The U16AA Hounds picked up a point in two weekend games.

The Hounds tied the Red Deer TBS 1-1 on Saturday and lost 9-2 Sunday to the West Central Tigers.

Jaxon Bohrn had a goal and Kayden Van Ham made 39 saves in Saturday’s draw.

In Sunday’s loss Ethan Hall and Colton Pluta had a goal each and Grady Brost made 58 saves.

The U16AA Hounds (4-15-2) have two games this weekend, hosting the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Sunday.

U17

The U17AAA SEAC Tigers dropped both of their games over the weekend, falling 4-2 to the Calgary Northstars on Saturday and 5-3 to the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

Kade Dickie and Davin Torgerson each scored in Saturday’s loss and Kolter Gans made 27 saves.

On Sunday, Nixon Kunkel, Kieran Wyrostok and Colby Gulliver all scored a goal, and Kayne Wright made 29 saves.

The U17AAA Tigers (11-9) have two home games this weekend, hosting the St. Albert Raiders Flyers on Saturday and the Airdrie Cannex Avalanche on Sunday.

U18

The U18AA Hounds lost their only game of the weekend, falling 2-1 to the NWCAA Bruins on Sunday. Jaxon Scrivener had Medicine Hat’s lone goal and Adam Ranger made 44 saves.

The Hounds (4-12-4) have three road games this weekend.
