sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat Tigers took care of business on their road trip to Brandon. The Tigers were at Brandon on Saturday for their lone game of the weekend and beat the Wheat Kings 3-2. The win was led by Ethan McCallum making 26 saves against his hometown team with family and friends in the stands. “The team was playing good in front of me and I stopped what I had to,” said McCallum, who was making his first WHL start in his hometown. “In the third period they definitely turned it up a little bit but honestly it was just good to get a win here. That’s all that matters.” Tyler Mackenzie and Hayden Harsanyi scored in the first period for the Tigers and Cayden Lindstrom potted his team-leading 16th of the season in the second frame for the eventual game winner. He also recorded a helper on MacKenzie’s 12th on the season. Gavin McKenna and Oasiz Wiesblatt each had two assists, and Hunter St. Martin recorded an assist as well. Medicine Hat weathered a storm late in the frame as Brandon pushed to tie it up, holding on to record their 14th win of the year and keep themselves tied for first place in the Eastern conference. The Tigers’ power play was one for three and their penalty kill was perfect on two kills. Desjardins said the Tigers looked a lot better than they did during a 2-0 loss in March last season. “It was a pretty close game, chances both ways,” Desjardins said. “It was a 3-2 game that probably could have gone either way. I liked us better than when we came at the end of last year and I thought they outplayed us pretty bad. Tonight it was pretty even.” Saturday’s win came off a 6-3 loss on Nov. 14 at Swift Current against the Broncos. The Tigers (14-6-2) host the Regina Pats on Wednesday before a rematch against the Wheat Kings on Saturday at Co-op Place. — with files from Perry Bergson, The Brandon Sun 13
