Medicine Hat’s U19 Live Wire returned home from a ringette tournament in golden fashion.

The U19’s won gold at Sherwood Park’s Platinum Ring tournament.

After going 3-0 in the round robin, the Live Wire beat Calgary NorthWest 4-1 in the finals Sunday to win the tournament. Avery Weisgerber scored twice in the first period to put Medicine Hat ahead early and added a third in the second half for the hat trick. Hannah Thompson also scored in the second half of the gold-medal clincher.

The Live Wire opened their tournament with a 10-1 win Friday morning over the Sherwood Park U19-1. They led 5-0 seven minutes into the game enroute to the win. Thompsen led the way with four goals, with Mackenzie Tindall adding three and Kayla Robinson and Kasey Martin each chipping in a goal. Sophie Kerr had a goal and five assists.

They carried the momentum later in the day with a 6-3 win over Sherwood Park’s second U19 team. Robinson potted four goals with Thompson providing the other two markers.

Live Wire had only one game Saturday, beating the Regina Ravens 8-3 to punch their finals ticket. All three of Robinson, Tindall and Thompson had two goals each and Natasha Uneiner and Martin both added a pair.

The U19 Live Wire’s next action is Nov. 25 on the road against Calgary.

U16

The U16 Mercury also competed at the Sherwood Park Platinum Ring tournament, finishing in fourth place.

They opened their tournament with a back and forth 9-8 loss against Sherwood Park-1. Margot Kerr scored five times and Reese Tabor, Rleigh Jackiw and Jayna Allchurch each scored a goal.

In Game 2, facing off against Sherwood Park-2, the Mercury won 5-2 with Jayna Allchurch standing tall in net. Emma Pinnell, who is also a goalie, scored her first goal of the season. Leighton Wright recorded a hat trick and Maren Berstad scored as well.

In their final game of the round robin, the U16’s lost 8-4 against the Regina Riot. Jackiw scored twice and both Wright and Erika Want scored a goal.

The Mercury had a rematch with Regina in the bronze-medal game on Sunday, falling 8-7 in overtime. Jackiw recorded a hat trick with the rest of the offence coming from Want, Allchurch and Kerr, who each scored in the final.

The Mercury look to keep their momentum Sunday in Calgary when they visit Calgary North West.

U12

The Medicine Hat U12C Royals were on the road on Sunday for two games, dropping both.

They faced Foothills in High River for their first game and then took on Airdrie.

Grace Stirling was between the pipes for both games and Rielle Forsyth scored the only goal in the second loss against Airdrie.
