Ringette roundup: U16 Mercery split weekend of ringette action

The Medicine Hat U16 Mercury ringette team split their weekend while shorthanded.

The Mercury hosted a doubleheader Saturday against the Cochrane Rockies at the Moose Rec Centre. They were down a couple players due to Zone volleyball finals, with two U12 affiliates filling in for both games.

The Mercury dropped their first game against the Rockies on the day 8-4. Leighton Wright scored twice, Margot Kerr had a goal and two assists and Erika Want added a goal.

The Mercury bounced back in the rematch contest, winning 8-5 for their first victory on the year. Wight led the offence again with three goals and two assists. Kerr had two goals and an assist, Eden Schmunk had a goal and U12 affiliate Kassidy Etienne also found the back of the net.

The Mercury look to continue momentum this weekend when they head to Sherwood Park for the annual Platinum Ring Tournament.

U14

The U14 Mayhem came away from the Northwest Ringette Rumble Tournament over the weekend with a bronze medal.

The Mayhem started off the tournament with a 12-7 loss to Edmonton. Jacqueline LeBlanc stood her ground in net and Lacey Gibney led the offence with four goals. Breanna Lanuk had a goal and four assists and Sloane Berstad and Onyka Funk each added a goal.

In Medicine Hat’s second game of the day, the club lost 5-3 to the host team Northwest Calgary. Goals were scored by Lacey Gibney, Brea Butterfield and Onyka Funk.

Medicine Hat faced St. Albert and lost a close 6-5 battle with goaltender Sophia Smith keeping them in the game. Lanuk, Berstad, Butterfield and Kristyn Want all scored in the loss.

St. Albert and Medicine Hat had a rematch in the bronze-medal game, with the Mayhem pulling out an 8-2 win. Tia Van Maarion, Berstad and Butterfield each scored two goals and Lanuk and Want each scored a goal.

The Medicine Hat Mayhem have some time off before playing in Calgary on Nov. 18.

U12

The Medicine Hat U12B Gators played their first home games on the weekend, hosting the Strathmore Ice. The Gators lost both contests.

In their first game, Grace Stirling was in net and Medicine Hat’s goals were scored by Kassidy Etienne who found the back of the net twice and Brinley Cross.

Danna Sawchuk was in net for the second game and Olivia Ulbricht led the offence with two goals. Stirling, Etienne and Ally Martin each scored as well.

The Gators look to rebound as they host Indus for a double header on Nov. 19.

U10

The U10 Step 1 Gators hosted their first two homes games this weekend. They are gearing up for their first away tournament in Lethbridge the weekend of Nov. 17.

The U10 Step 3 Gators were in action on home ice this weekend with a pair of games against the Strathmore Ice.

In their first game, the lone Gator goal came from Brylee Dirk.

Their second game saw Sloan Loehndorf find the back of the net for a single Gator goal.

The Gators’ next action is in a tournament, the weekend of Nov. 17 when they visit Lethbridge.
