Ringette Roundup: U19 Live Wire sweep weekend doubleheader

The Medicine Hat U19 Live Wire had a winning weekend of ringette.

The Live Wire won both of their games Sunday, beating Bowview 8-4 and 7-4.

In their first win, Medicine Hat fell behind early before rattling of five of the next six goals to lead 6-2 at the half. They added two more in the second half before winning 8-4.

Grace Ammann and Kayla Robinson each had two goals and Kasey Martin, Sophie Kerr, Hannah Thompson and Avery Weisgerber all chipped in single markers.

In their second win, the Live Wire carried an early 5-0 lead en route to the 7-4 victory. Ammann again led the team with two goals while Kerr also had a pair of goals. Weisgerber, Robinson and Thompson each netted one.

Medicine Hat’s U19 team is on the road on Nov. 10 to face Sherwood Park.

U16

The Mercury hosted the Bow View Pulse in a doubleheader Sunday and ended the weekend with a loss and a tie.

In the first matchup, the Mercury kept the first period close before Bow View pulled ahead and the Mercury lost. Ryleigh Jackiw had three goals, Leighton Wright had two of her own and Erika Want added a goal as well.

In the second game of the double header, the Mercury regrouped and after killing off a two-minute three-on-two penalty, drew a tie. Wright scored four times, Jackiw had her second hat tick of the weekend and Margot Kerr scored twice.

The Mercury host the Cochrane Rockies on Saturday for a doubleheader at the Moose.

U14

The U14B Mayhem had two double headers over the weekend, starting with a roadtrip to Calgary to face the Bowview Knockout.

The Hatters came away with a win and a loss. In the first game, a 4-2 victory, seven Mayhem power plays gave the Hatters ample time to score, with Breanna Lanuk scoring twice and both Onyka Funk and Brea Butterfield adding a goal. Jaqueline LeBlanc held Bowview to just two goals in Mayhem’s first win of the season.

Sophia Smith took over in net for the second game, an 8-4 loss for Medicine Hat. Funk scored a pair, with Lanuk adding her third of the day and Sloane Berstad scored a solo marker.

The Mayhem were at home Sunday, with Smith taking the net in the first game of a doubleheader against the Cochrane Rockies, an 11-1 loss. Tia VanMaarion scored Mayhem’s only goal with two minutes left in the game.

Mayhem’s forwards continued to generate scoring chances in their second game but struggled to get the ring past Cochrane’s goalkeeper. Lacey Gibney, Berstad and Butterfield each posted a goal in the 9-3 loss to Cochrane.

U12

The U12B Gators played their first games on the road on Saturday in Calgary, dropping both games.

The Gators fell to Bow View U12B-2 in the first game 7-5 with Kassidy Etienne and Brinley Cross scoring twice and Annalise Robins added a goal of her own.

In their second game against Bow View U12B-1, Etienne scored twice Olivia Ulbricht added two of her own and Robins, Ally Martin and Brinley Cross each cored in a 10-7 loss.

Danna Sawchuk was in goal in both games.

U10

The U10 Black started their first game hesitant but grew better as the day went on. Kylee Drever started in goal, making 14 saves and Jayla-Ray Kaudt got her first two goals as a new player, earning the heart and hustle player of the game.

Their second game had seven goals from Blair Dirk and new player Ridley Trotter stood tall in goal, receiving the second heart and hustle award.

The U10 Step 1 Gators opened the season up this past Saturday in Lethbridge with goals from both the Green and Gold teams.

They’re back in action for their first home games this Sunday at the Moose.
