Ringette roundup: U19 Live Wire split weekend of ringette action

The Medicine Hat U19 Live Wire ended their weekend in victorious fashion.

The local ringette club opened their weekend with a 5-3 loss Sunday morning against the Calgary CNW-1. Medicine Hat led 3-0 at the half before allowing five straight goals for the loss.

They were able to bounce back in the afternoon, beating Calgary 9-2. Kayla Robinson led the team in scoring with four goals, Mackenzie Tindall had two with Sophie Kerr, Hannah Thompson and Grace Ammann each adding solo markers in a game Medicine Hat led 6-0 at the half.

The Live Wire host the Calgary Bowview this Sunday at the Moose Rec centre for two contests.

U14

The U14B Mayhem opened their season with two losses against the Calgary Bowview Rush.

The Mayhem dropped their first game Sunday 8-4 before falling 7-6 later in the day. Lacey Gibney led the offence in the two games with four goals, with Brea Butterfield adding two of her own and Tia Van Maarion, Jordyn Le Blanc, Addison Mastel and Sloane Berstad each adding a goal. Jacqueline Le Blanc and Sophia Smith stood tall in net.

The Mayhem are on the road Saturday in Calgary before hosting Cochrane on Sunday at the Moose.

U12

The U12C Royals dropped their first game of the year, with a 13-0 loss Sunday against the Cochrane Thunder Puppies.

In their second game, the Royals regrouped but ultimately fell short in a 6-5 loss. Arika McDowall notched three goals, and single markers came from Sadie Sackman and Rielle Forsyth got the Royals close to tying it up. Grace Stirling was between the pipes for the Royals.

U10

The U10 Step 3 Gators opened their season Saturday in Lethbridge. The Gators, with 11 rookies, settled into the game in the second half and were able to find the net four times, with a pair of goals by Sloan Loehndorf and Brylee Dirk. Lexxon Martinez stood tall in net. In their second game, the Gators scored quick, with Loehndorf finding the net again.

Despite the loss, the Gators displayed good passing skills and several shots on net and are back at league action in a couple weeks.
