Panthers Track and Field club rounding corner on outdoor season

The Medicine Hat Panthers Track and Field Club has nearly wrapped up the outdoor season for 2023.

The local club competed at the Athletics Alberta Provincials in early July with five representatives.

Sarah Pimblett (U20) placed second in javelin with a personal best throw of 29.64 m, fourth in high jump and sixth in long jump.

Zaynna Willoughby (U18) she finished first in shot put and discus and third in hammer throw.

Zaide Kolody (U16) finished 10th in the 1,200m race.

Emma Pimblett (U14) place ninth in long jump.

Keegan Kolody (U20) is a para athlete who is pursuing competition on an international stage and competed in the 400m and 1500m events, placing 16th and 14th respectively. In the T20 category, his times counted towards his classification, advancing him to nationals in Langley, placing second in the 400m.

Sypris Lukye travelled to Medicine Hat to train with the Panthers Throws coaching team in preparation of her 3 throwing events in Halifax at the North American Indigenous Games.

She excelled in her U14 age category earning three silver medals in discus (25.23m), shot put (8.66m). and javelin (27.88m).

Alberta Summer Games

Panthers track had six athletes named to the Alberta Summer Games team representing Zone 1.

Zaynna Willougby (U18) took a silver medal in the discus, a bronze in shot put and finished fifth in the 300m hurdles.

Sadee Toews (U18) finished seventh in 100m hurdles and 11th in 100m.

Edward Hicks (U18) won silver in the 300m hurdles and finished fourth in 110m Hurdles and 12th in the 400m.

Eve Maser (U18) Placed 14th in the 200m.

Zaide Kolody (U16) finished fifth in 1,200m and sixth in the medley relay with team mate Odin Jordet

Jordet (U16) finished sixth in the 800m and 2,000m.

Kolody competed at the Langley Bell Canada Track and Field Championships held at the end of July. He finished in second in the U20 1,500m and third in the 400m. He is in queue for an international meet, which is the next step towards the ParaOlympics.

The next representation for the Panthers track club has Willoughby travelling to Sherbrooke, Que. Friday to compete in the Legion National Championships in her three throwing events, discus, shot put and hammer throw.
