American Legion wrap-up: U15 Majestics sweep weekend slate

The Medicine Hat U15 Majestics are coming off a winning weekend of American Legion Baseball.

The Majestics won all three of their contests on the weekend to give them a 33-12 record on the season. Medicine Hat opened the stretch with a 9-3 win Saturday against the Black Gold 47’s. Dane Brooks led the Majestics in the win with two RBIs on two hits and a walk. Liam Cunningham started the game for Medicine Hat and picked up the win with two strikeouts in four innings pitched. Ryan Ziebart pitched 1.2 innings with three strikeouts and Riley Tweten worked the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.

The Majestics carried the momentum into Sunday as they beat the Sherwood Park Athletics 18-13. Kane Bishop had four RBIs on two hits and Tweten knocked in three RBIs on one hit. Ayden Anderson started the game on the mound and pitched two innings with two strikeouts. Bennet Anderson registered the win with three innings and a strikeout before handing the ball off to Josh Rolheiser who worked the final two innings, recording three strikeouts.

They wrapped up their weekend with a 3-1 win over the YQL Sluggers. Brooks collected an RBI on two hits to lead the offence. Tweten started the game and picked up the win with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Ty Meyer recorded the final four outs of the game, three by strikeout.

Aces

The Medicine Hat U15 Aces also had a winning weekend, sweeping their two-game slate. They beat the Calgary City Royals in back-to-back contests Saturday, winning 26-4 and 18-7.

Nixon Davis led the Aces’ offence in the first win, notching two RBIs on three hits while scoring four runs. Ethan Bowey pitched a complete game for the win, striking out two batters in his seven innings of work.

The Aces (22-11-1) were led in their second win by Ethan Grad who piled up five RBIs on two hits with two runs scored. Jude Martin and Aaron Recio each added three RBIs, with Recio recording four hits.

Micah Fontaine started the game and struck out two batters in his 4.1 innings of work. Recio entered the game and recorded the final 2.2, striking out two in the process.

Monarchs

The Medicine Hat U18 Moose Monarchs had three games to start the week and won one of the three. The Monarchs opened their Monday slate with a 12-1 loss against the Bozeman Bucks. Tyler Straarup had an RBI on two hits in the loss. Koby Eskestrand started the game and worked 1.2 innings with two strikeouts before Cade Harrison took over and registered a strikeout in two innings pitched. Parker Hunt recorded an out in a relief appearance.

The Monarchs won their second game Monday, beating the Bucks 4-2. Straarup drove in two RBIs on three hits and scored once. Evan Morrison started and pitched a complete game for the win, striking out 11 in his seven innings pitched.

The Monarchs (20-22) lost a close battle against the Bucks on Tuesday, falling 15-14. Jeff Bullock had three RBIs on four hits and two runs scored in the loss. Graceon Little added three RBIs on two hits and a run scored.

Trevin Ressler started the game and recorded three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Kayne Olinski worked a third of an inning and Straarup pitched the remaining inning.

Knights

The Medicine Hat U18 Knights had two contests over the weekend against the Havre Northstars and dropped both, 11-1, then 6-1 on Saturday.

Cole Carlson had the lone Knights RBI in the first loss, notching it on one hit. JJ Harnett started the game and worked 3.1 innings before Carlson worked the final 1.1.

Harnett carried the offence in the second game, recording an RBI on one hit. Cade Moch started the game and struck out one batter in 1.1 innings pitched. Nixon Kunkel worked three innings with a strikeout and Pryce Velichko worked the final 1.2 innings with three strikeouts.

The Knights (21-29) are in action tonight at Lethbridge against the Miners.
