The first two weekends of Softball Alberta Provincial Championships have wrapped up with three Medicine Hat Minor Softball teams in action.

Two U11 teams took to Calgary for provincials on the July long weekend. The U11 Thunder Red wrapped up their weekend after round-robin play with an 1-3 record, registering their one win against the Irma Tigers.

The U11 Thunder Black moved into the semifinals after an impressive 3-1 round-robin record. The team registered a fourth-place standing after losing the bronze medal game to the Camrose Crossfire.

“This was an exciting game with loads of highlights including a sweet double play, a triple by Harper Neuls and a homer by Lilah Vair,” Osadczuk said.

The U11 Thunder program is one MHMS says they are excited to see continue to develop with the U11 provincials growing from 20 teams last year to 34 teams this year.

The U13 Thunder Black team was in Grand Prairie July 7-9 for Softball Alberta ‘D’ Provincial championships. They did not advance to the championship games on Sunday but boasted a 3-1 record. Several other teams held a similar record and runs for/runs against determined advancement, with the Thunder missing out by three runs.

Farren and Nellie Campbell, Addyson Darr and zone pickup Kallie Crossland all received nods for game MVPs through round robin play.

All three teams participated this season in the Southern Alberta Softball Series, a series dedicated to C-D ball and fastball development in the south zone, hosted in three series weekends in Lethbridge, Calgary and Medicine Hat.

MHMSA still has five teams attending provincials U13-U19 and a team of players representing Zone 1 at the Alberta Summer Games.
