Medicine Hat Drag Racing hosts Street Wheelers

The Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association hosted its third race of the season over the weekend.

Friday night had only two races, with Kevin Willims from Hepburn, Sask. winning the bikes race ahead of Chuck Akister from Moose Jaw.

Medicine Hat’s Marco Etreni won the Friday night bike race ahead of Clayton Potter from Calgary.

Local racer Roy Valk opened Saturday’s races with a win, taking first place in the daily driver competition. He finished ahead of runner-up Sandy Larsen from Lethbridge.

Mike Bouman from Lethbridge won the extreme street competition ahead of Alfredo Etreni from Thunder Bay, Ont.

Marco Etreni followed up his win on Friday by taking the bikes race on Saturday, finishing ahead of runner-up and fellow Hatter, Gerald Beatch.

Steve Groenink of Lethbridge won the street king race, with Bree King from Spring Brook taking second place.

Dillon Merkl from Brooks took the quick street race with Hatter Chance Edlemann the runner up. In the final race of the weekend, Lethbridge’s Bryce Hungerford took first place ahead of Raiden Higa, also from Lethbridge.

Next up for the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association is its Father’s Day races this weekend, a points weekend that gets underway Friday night.

The Youth Initiatives and Education in Lifestyles and Driving Association will be down at the strip June 16 for the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association’s Friday Night Street Legal event, hoping to share knowledge about traffic safety with the city’s younger drivers.

Gates open at 4 p.m. for racers and 5 p.m. for fans on Friday, June 16, with racing to follow at 7 p.m.
