The McCoy Colts varsity baseball team ended their regular season on a high note.

Tuesday night in Lethbridge the McCoy Varsity Colts swept both ends of a doubleheader to kickoff the week.

In their first contest Caleb Garrecht threw a complete game to earn the 14-1 win over the Raymond Comets. Garrecht allowed zero earned runs or walks on five hits and five strikeouts.

Kolter Gans led the Colts offence with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Garrecht helped his own cause with two hits including a double, two RBI and two runs scored while Jackson Bowal had two hits and four RBIs.

The second game brought the excitement as the Varsity Colts defeated the Kate Andrews Pride 11-5 in eight innings. The score was tied at 1-1 after six with neither team registering a hit to that point. The flood gates then opened in the top of the seventh as the Colts scored four runs to take what they hoped to be a commanding 5-1 lead, before the Pride stormed back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to force extra innings. McCoy scored six in the top of the eighth and shut down the Pride in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.

Cole Carlson started the contest for the Colts and carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He ended up throwing 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits, three walks and eight strikeouts. JJ Harnett recorded the final four outs without allowing a baserunner, one via the strikeout, to earn the win.

Jack Hackett had a big night at the plate hitting two home runs, one of them being inside the park and driving in two runs. Beck Boiteau also had four RBIs and Matt Fritzler scored three runs. McCoy had a balanced attack as every Colts batter had at least one hit.

The Colts continued the success into Wednesday, beating the Chinook Coyotes 9-6.

Kayne Olinski carried a shutout into the bottom of the seventh. With the Colts leading 9-0, the Coyotes fought back with six runs in their last at-bat to make the game close.

The Varsity Colts’ offence was led by the Bowal brothers as Jackson Bowal hit a home run and scored two runs while Tate Bowal had a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Olinski helped his own cause with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Wednesday’s contest wraps up the regular season for the McCoy Varsity squad (6-2), they will host a playoff game next week with the opponent to be determined.
