jtubb@medicinehatnews.com@ReporterTubb Hatters have their chance to Conquer the Coulee next weekend. Union Races is hosting their starship event on May 20, the Conquer the Coulee obstacle course race. Union Races owner Randy Siedlecki says they have new obstacles this year, bringing them up to 34 and a new course design. She says it’s the perfect event for both families and obstacle veterans to enjoy. “Our big thing is, just challenge yourself to do something different and our big model for our whole business is bonding family and friends together through fitness,” Siedlecki said. The cost to Conquer the Coulee for anyone over the age of 14 in the open heat is $70 and $80 in the competitive, timed heat. Interested athletes can register at unionraces.ca anytime before May 19 at midnight. After that, registration can be done on site Saturday. Races get underway at 9 a.m. with groups split in 15-minute intervals based on competitive levels and spacing. This year they are offering both completive timed heats and non-tied runs. “They’re not as structured, if you come to an obstacle and it’s just way too difficult and you don’t think you can do it, you just don’t do it,” Siedlecki said. “You just go around it but we’re really stressing to just try it because you never know what you can do unless you try. So we try to tailor our races for everybody.” Anyone interested in spectating the event is free to do so but must enter Kin Coulee park on foot as roads will be gated off. Union Races is also hosting 5K/10K trail races Sunday at Kin Coulee park. Interested runners can register the same way as they would for Conquer the Coulee. 11
