sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Prince Albert Raiders will be busy in the first round of the 2023 Western Hockey League draft. The Raiders will select first and second overall in the WHL prospects draft scheduled for May 11. All six clubs who did not qualify for the playoffs were in the lottery and the Raiders moved up from fourth to second with their pick, while receiving the first pick from the Kaiden Guhle trade with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2021-22 season. One year after selecting first overall the Medicine Hat Tigers will pick ninth in the 2023 draft. Their positioning, like the rest of the WHL’s playoff teams, was decided by inverse standings. The last time Medicine Hat selected ninth overall was in 1996 when they selected defenceman Travis Willie. The WHL also announced the draft order for the U.S. Priority Draft set for May 10, with the Spokane Chiefs getting the first overall pick. Medicine Hat will select ninth. 6
