sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat Waves Swim Club had one swimmer compete at the Speedo Western Canadian Championships held in Calgary over the weekend. Rowynn Biffart represented Waves at her first Speedo Western Canadian Championships meet. She opened the weekend with a gold medal win on Thursday in the Girls 13-15 aged 200m breast stroke. The swim ranks her with the second best time for 14-year-old girls in Canada. She was presented with her gold medal by Canada breaststroke Olympian Rachel Nichol. At Friday’s finals session, Biffart was able to dip under the Canadian Junior Trials qualifying standard in the 100m breast stroke, finishing third. Her only race Saturday was the open 50m breast stroke, where she finished 38th. She closed out her weekend with the 200m IM and 50m Freestyle. Biffart placed sixth and 14th respectively. Biffart’s next event is this weekend, when she heads to Toronto fort the 2023 Bell Canadian Trials. 9
