U16AA Hounds pickup win Friday morning in playoff tournament

The Medicine Hat U16AA Hounds picked up their first win of their playoff tournament Friday morning.

The Hounds beat the West Central Panthers 3-2 to add a win on top of their 4-4 draw Thursday afternoon against the Okotoks Oilers.

It was affiliated players leading the way for the Hounds in the win with Theron Bensler scoring two goals and Kingston Chisholm adding a marker as well. Parker McLaughlin had 38 saves in the victory.

The Hounds were to face off against the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday evening, before wrapping up their round robin Saturday at 11:45 a.m. against the Red Deer TBS. All games were located at the Hockey Hounds arena as Medicine Hat hosts all seven U16 SCAHL teams for the weekend tournament.

U13, U18 Hounds continue playoffs

The U13AA Hounds picked up their second playoff win of the week, beating the Okotoks Oilers 8-1 Friday. They picked up a 2-1 victory Thursday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the playoff tournament hosted in Strathmore.

Everett Ward led the way offensively with a hat trick. Evander Leupold and Chase Droeske each had a goal and two assists in the win, with the rest of the goals coming from Gage Bowal, Gibson Studer and Carter Jarvis. Paxton Smigelski picked up the win in net.

Medicine Hat faced off against Foothills Bisons on Friday night to finish their round robin.

The U18AA Hounds also added their second win of the weekend, beating the Foothills Bisons 2-1 Friday morning. Connor Palmer and Braxton Spencer both scored and Silas Currie made 30 saves as the Hounds added to their win total after beating the Taber Golden Suns 4-2 on Thursday.

They finished their round robin Friday night against the Okotoks Oilers.

Due to an early deadline as a result of inclement weather, none of Medicine Hat’s Friday evening games were completed by time of press.
