Cubs fall 6-3 in South finals Game 2

The Medicine Hat Cubs will turn to home ice to get their first win in the South finals.

The Cubs dropped Game 2 of the best-of-seven series 6-3 in Okotoks on Friday, falling behind 2-0 against the HJHL’s top team. Medicine Hat lost Game 1 on Wednesday 4-0.

Medicine Hat opened the scoring with 11:33 left in the first period on a goal from Jacob Milne, Cooper Hilworth picked up the assist. Oktoks tied it up 1-1 with 13 seconds left in the first period. The Bisons also led the game in shots 15-5 after 20 minutes.

The two clubs traded goals in the second, Adam Kirkpatrick scored to put Okotoks ahead before Medicine Hat captain Levi Schlosser tied the game up with a goal of his own. Connor Miller and Kyle Woolridge had the assists.

Okotoks added two more goals in the second period, off the sticks of  Ethan MacIntyre and Easton Dean, to jump ahead 4-2 before Medicine Hat drew themselves within one on a goal from Woolridge.

The Bisons poured it on in the third period as they scored twice for the final score of 6-3. Jaevon Buschlen and Alaister Standen had Okotoks’ third period offence.

The series turns to Medicine Hat and the Kinplex for Game 3 on Sunday as the Cubs look to avoid going down 3-0 in the series. That game gets underway at 2:45 p.m.
