Hat High renaming gym during Purple Shirt Day games

The Hat High Hawks basketball program is giving back in multiple ways today.

This afternoon when the Hawks take on the Cardston Cougars, who are ranked No. 10 provincially at the 4A boys level, they are doing so to raise money to fight ALS with their Purple Shirt night.

The Hawks are also honouring former principal and basketball coach Boris Grisonich by naming the gym after him.

Grisonich retired in 2021 after 32 years working at Hat High, 17 as a teacher and 15 as principal. He was also a basketball coach at Hat High, winning nine zone titles and two provincial championships. The ceremony will take place after the senior girls game.

The games get underway with the junior girls at 2 p.m., the JV boys at 3:45, senior girls at 6 p.m. and senior boys at 7:45 p.m.

The special night comes after the Hawks recent;y celebrated graduating basketball athletes, with the senior boys night Wednesday and the senior girls night Feb. 24.
