Ringette roundup: U16 Matrix sweep weekend of ringette play downs action

The Medicine Hat U16 Matrix ringette team is a perfect 3-0 to start their play downs.

The Matrix were in Calgary for two play-down games over the weekend and came away with the win in both. They beat the Strathmore Ice Flares 5-3 to open the day with Jordy Provost leading the way with two goals. Mackenzie Tindall, Ryleigh Jackiw and Kasey Martin each scored a goal while Grace Ammann and Ella Seale each contributed two assists each.

In their second game, the Matrix were led by Kyree Stern in net as they beat the Bow View Elite 7-1. Tindall had two goals and an assist and Ava Allchurch had a goal and two assists. Karly Stennick, Ella Seale, Kasey Martin, and Jordy Provost each also scored in the victory.

The U16 Matrix continue play-down action Sunday when they host North West Calgary Exile and the North West Calgary Rage at 10 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. at the Moose Recreation Centre.

U14

The U14 Mud Dawgs travelled to Calgary on Sunday for two provincial play-down games.

In their first game the Mud Dawgs beat the North West Knights 9-6, led by four goals from Leighton Wright. Kensie Provost had three goals, while Margot Kerr added a goal and Sloane Berstad added a goal and an assist. Emma Pinnell was in net and held the Knights to six goals.

In the second game, the Mud Dawgs played North West Rampage and came away with an 8-3 loss. Jayna Allchurch and Pinnell split duties in net and the Mud Dawg goals were scored by Margot Kerr with two of her own and Leighton Wright adding a single marker.

U12

The U12 Phoenix swept the South Calgary Panthers, who are first in their division, on Sunday in a double-header at the Moose Recreation Centre. The Phoenix took the first game 8-7. Jacqueline LeBlanc was solid in net. Breanna Lanuk led the offence with four goals while Lacey Gibney added two herself while Brea Butterfield and Olivia Ulbricht each scored a goal.

The Phoenix came away with a 7-5 win in the second game against the Panthers. Sophia Smith stood tall in net and Lanuk scored four goals for the second straight game. Butterfield had two goals and Gibney rounded it out with a goal of her own.

The U12 Phoenix have wrapped up their regular season with a record of 8-7-1 and will take part in their regional tournament the weekend of March 24 in Calgary.

U10

The Medicine Hat U10 Step 3 Gators travelled to Airdrie on Saturday for their final two regular season games, taking on the Airdrie Tornados.

Dannalee Sawchuk played goal for the first game and stood tall but it was the Tornados coming away with the win.

In their second game, the Gators made their push but the Tornados came out with the win again. The Gatos offence was scored by Brinley Cross and Grace Stirling was between the pipes.

The U10 Gators are off until their final tournament in Lethbridge in March.
