Cubs fall 6-4 to Generals in Game 4 Wednesday

The Medicine Hat Cubs best-of-seven series with the Cochrane Generals has become a best-of-three.

The Cubs lost 6-4 Wednesday night in Cochrane as the semifinals series becomes even at 2-2. Medicine Hat had won two straight games, taking games two and three after losing Game 1.

Cochrane opened the scoring Wednesday 1:35 into the contest with a goal from Riley Hopper. The Cubs answered back in the first period and were ahead 2-1 after 20 minutes. Kyle Woolridge notched his sixth goal of the series less than three minutes after the opening goal to tie it up, Levi Schlosser with the only assist.

Cooper Hilworth found the back of the net on a power play at the 14:44 mark to put the Cubs ahead. Connor Miller and Jacob Milne had the helpers on Hilworth’s second.

Jackson Bowal scored his first of the postseason for the Cubs in the second period but his goal was sandwiched by Cochrane goals from Diago Coelho and Patrick Forde as the game was tied up at 3-3 after 40 minutes.

After Coelho scored on a power play 4:28 for the Cochrane lead, Schlosser scored to tie the game up with Colby Friedrich and Woolridge notching assists. The Generals scored two straight for the eventual winning score of 6-4, as Connor Stephenson potted the winning marker with 3:22 left before Hopper scored on an empty net.

Mark Peddle was between the pipes for the Cubs in the loss, making 16 saves. The Cubs return to Medicine Hat and the Kinplex on Friday as they host the Generals for Game 5, which gets underway at 8:15. Game 6 of the series goes Saturday back in Cochrane.
