Maddy Rieger put a lot of time and effort into her design of the Medicine Hat Tigers jersey.
The seven-year-old fan’s all-orange design was chosen as the winning YourTeamYourJersey option for the Tigers as part of the Canadian Hockey League, the Western Hockey League and Real Canadian Superstore’s contest.
This past summer, Tigers fans across the West submitted jersey designs, which were then voted on by fans. Rieger’s design, an all-orange jersey with black stripes on the top, on the arms and across the bottom, received the most fan votes and will be worn by the Tigers on Saturday when they host the Kamloops Blazers.
The jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds going to support President’s Choice Children’s Charity.
She says she liked the look of all the orange and says it was really special to her that her design was picked.
Rieger, her dad Blair and sister Amelia were at Co-op Place on Tuesday to show off the jersey to the Tigers lineup and were surprised with a signed version of her jersey with her name on the back.
“It’s pretty special for Maddy,” her dad Blair said. “She’s been around hockey her whole life, she’s pretty pumped about it.”
He says the design was all Maddy’s, all he did was print out the paper and let her do her magic.
“It’s still an important job, printing out all that paperwork,” he joked.
Dallon Melin presented her with the jersey and was impressed with her design and was happy to be part of the presentation.
“I really love the jersey and I think it’s cool, getting to present her with her own jersey signed by all of us, it was pretty good moment,” Melin said. “It’s cool to get to wear the full orange. We have a black and we have a white, I love the orange. I don’t think it’s too much, I just think it’s a good look as a jersey.”
“They’re going to look really good Saturday night.”
Rebels Sedoff suspended four games
Red Deer Rebels defenceman Christoffer Sedoff received a four-game suspension from the WHL on Thursday for his hit to the head on Tigers Pasha Bocharov in Monday’s 4-1 Medicine Hat win.
Bocharov left that game, missed Wednesday’s 6-3 loss in Regina against the Pats and is listed as day-to-day.
