Tigers fall 6-3 in Regina

By James Tubb on February 22, 2023.

The Medicine Hat Tigers couldn’t contain Connor Bedard and the Pats on Wednesday.

Regina beat the Tigers 6-3 on a night where Bedard had a goal and six points, chipping in on all of the Pats’ offence. Medicine Hat entered the game on a high after beating the Calgary Hitmen 4-1 on Monday.

Regina was first on the scoreboard in the opening frame with a power play goal from Tanner Howe. Bedard and Alexander Suzdalev had the assists.

Hunter St. Martin got the Tigers on the board at the 10:11 mark as he capitalized on a mini breakaway for his fifth goal of the year, Oasiz Wiesblatt and Bogdans Hodass had the assists.

The Pats scored three straight across the remaining time in the first, the second and early in the third period. Sam Oremba scored with 3:57 left in the first period, Bedard scored his 52nd at the 10:36 of the second and Howe notched his second goal of the game seven seconds into the third period.

Medicine Hat added two power play goals in third from Wiesblatt and Hodass. Dru Krebs and Brendan Lee set up Wiesblatt’s 21st and Dallon Melin and Tomas Mrsic had the helpers on Hodass’s 10th. Regina also had goals from Zach Stringer and Tye Spencer as they held on for the 6-3 win.

The Tigers (23-23-8-1) are back in action Saturday when they host the Kamloops Blazers at Co-op Place. That game marks the return of former Tigers head coach Shaun Clouston.
