sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat U16 Matrix opened up their play down season with a victorious trip to Indus against the South Calgary Surge. The Matrix came out and beat the Surge 6-3 to start play-downs season on a hight note. Mackenzie Tindall led the way in the win with three goals with Ava Allchurch, Jordy Provost and Ryleigh Jackiw each scoring a goal. Brooklyn Thomas had three assists, Ava Allchurch had two and Jackiw add one helper of her own. The Matrix continue their play-downs on Sunday when they travel to Calgary for two games, taking on the Strathmore Ice Flares at 3 p.m. and the Bow View Elite at 6 p.m. U12 The Medicine Hat U12 Phoenix were in Calgary on Saturday for two games. They picked up a 6-4 win against the Bow View Hot Shots in their first contest of the day. Jacqueline LeBlanc stood tall in net, and Breanna Lanuk and Kassidy Etienne split the offence with three goals each. Sophia Smith, Myah Weber, Brea Butterfield, Lanuk and Olivia Ulbricht each registered an assist. In the second game, the Phoenix beat the South Calgary Phantoms 11-8. Sophia Smith was between the pipes for the win. Lanuk had six goals on her own with Butterfield adding three marker. Ulbricht and Etienne each added a goal. Ally Martin, Weber, Butterfield, Lanuk, Ulbricht and Etienne all had an assist. The Phoenix take on the South Calgary Phantom in a double header on Sunday. U10 The U10 Step 1 Green Gators held their last home games of the season Sunday. The Gators took on Lethbridge in their first game and controlled play with Lexxon Martinez standing tall in net. After being held to no goals in the first half, Dylin Kerluke and Charlie Lowe each scored three in the second half to jumpstart the offence. Everley Cross scored twice and Martinez rounded out the scoring with one of her own. The Green Gators took on Rockyford in their second game with Cross between the pipes. Lowe added another hat-trick, and Cross and Kylee Drever each added two goals. Kerluke and Martinez had one point each in the win. The Green Gators have league play in Strathmore on Mar. 4. The U10 Step 1 Gold Gators wrapped up their home schedule for the season with games against Rockyford and Lethbridge this past weekend. The Gold Gators beat Rockyford 9-5 in their first contest with goaltending from Zoe Aarden and Zayda Dawson and defence from Blaire Dirk and Eris Davies. The offence was led by Sloan Loehndorf, Fallyn Weeks, Sadie Sackman and Kimber Moch. In their second game, they battled Lethbridge and came away with the a 12-9 win. Kimber Moch and Eris Davies stood tall in net while they got contributions on offence from different members of the team, Loehndorf, Weeks, Davies, Sackman, Dawson, Moch and Aarden. They wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Indus and Starthmore on Mar. 4. The U10 Step 3 Gators played two games in Lethbridge on Sunday. Evangeline Robins was between the pipes for the first game and the Gators’ lone goal in a lopsided loss was scored by Annalise Robins. The Gators bounced back in the second game and showed some offensive skills in a 8-4 loss. Grace Stirling was in net and their goals were scored by Jordyn Sawchuk, Brinley Cross, Annalise Robins and Peyton Howes. 23
