Minor Hockey roundup: U18AA MedHat Hounds fall in their weekend slate

The U18AA Medicine Hat Hounds had a trying weekend.

The Hounds lost 6-4 Saturday against the Wheatland Chiefs before falling 7-5 in a rematch with the Chiefs at home on Sunday.

Jacob Hazzard had a goal and three assists in Saturday’s loss, with Quin Lacher adding a goal and an assist and Hayden King and Connor Palmer each adding a goal. Tyler Wakelam made 34 saves.

In Sunday’s loss at Co-op Place, Wyatt Bower, Palmer and Hazzard all had a goal and an assist. Brandyn Baird and Braxton Spencer each scored a goal while Adam Ranger and Wakelam split duties in net making a combined 31 saves.

The U18 Hounds (11-17-2) have two games this weekend as they host the Taber Golden Suns on Saturday before facing the Foothills Bisons on the road Sunday.

U17

The U17AAA South East Athletic Club Tigers dropped both of their games over the weekend, losing 8-4 at home against the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday before falling 3-1 against the Calgary Royals on Sunday.

Colby Gulliver had two goals against Okotoks with Cash Olson adding a goal and an assist and Kayden Yeaman scoring a goal of his own. Kayne Wright made 36 saves between the pipes.

Kolter Gans made 33 saves on Sunday against Calgary with Yeaman scoring the Tigers lone goal.

The U17AAA Tigers (9-14-2-3) have two games this weekend, taking on the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers on Saturday and the Lloydminster Rohan Bobcats on Sunday.

U16

The U16AA MH Hounds swept their weekend games, beating the Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc 4-1 on Saturday and topping the West Central Panthers 5-3 on Sunday.

Austin Murphy and Leighton Verishine each had two goals and Parker McLaughlin made 29 saves on Saturday.

In Sunday’s win, Easton Kurpjuweit, Colby Motz and Verishine each had a goal and two assists. Grady Ford added a goal and an assist and Nolan Sutherland had a goal of his own. Adam Ranger made 20 saves in the victory.

The Hounds (13-10-5) have two games this weekend, facing the Wheatland Raiders on Saturday before hosting the Red Deer TBS on Sunday.

U15

The U15AAA SEAC Tigers dropped both of their weekend games, falling 2-1 on Friday against the Lethbridge Golden Hawks and 2-0 against the Calgary Northstars on Saturday.

Kade Dickie had the Tigers’ lone goal on Friday, Grady Brost made 39 saves. Hudson Corbett had 25 saves in their shutout loss on Saturday.

The U15AAA Tigers (4-27-1-0) have two games this week as they host the Golden Hawks on Thursday before facing the Calgary Bisons on Saturday.

The U15AA MH Hounds also lost in both of their contests over the weekend, falling 3-1 against the Olds Grizzlys on Saturday before losing 6-1 against the Bow Valley Timberwolves on Sunday.

Jackson Brassard had the Hounds’ only goal against the Grizzlys while Mac Harvey-Zenk made 28 saves. In Sunday’s loss, Logan Neuls had Medicine Hat’s lone goal and Kayden Van Ham turned aside 37 shots.

U13

The U13AA MH Hounds swept their weekend slate, beating the Taber Golden Suns 13-4 on Saturday before shutting them out 9-0 on Sunday.

Beckham Girletz had three goals and four assists to lead the way on Saturday with Carter Gilchrist adding three goals and two assists and Everett Ward chipping in with two goals and three assists.

Chase Droeske had two goals and an assist, Carter Jarvis had a goal and two assist, Evander Leupold had a goal and an assist and George Maser had a goal of his own.

Braden Tshritter made 34 saves in net for the victory.

In Sunday’s win, Paxton Smigelski turned aside all 19 shots he faced for the shutout while Maser led the offence with three goals and two assists. Jarvis had a goal and three assists and Gage Bowal, Trevin Ibach and Ward each had a goal and an assist.

The U13AA Hounds (16-8-5) have two games this weekend, hosting the Bow Valley Timberwolves on Saturday before facing the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.
