Minor Hockey Roundup: SEAC splits weekend

South East Athletic Club’s U17AAA Tigers split a weekend series against the Calgary Royals with a 5-4 loss on Friday and a 2-1 win on Sunday.

Garrett Janzen, Cash Olson, Benjamin Foss and Kayne Wright all scored for SEAC in Friday’s loss, while Kayne Wright stopped 45 shots in net.

Hayden Genhart led the way Sunday with a goal and an assist, while Kellin Hodgson had a pair of helpers and Olson rounded out the scoring. Kolter Gans took the victory in net with a 46-save performance.

The Tigers, now 9-12-2-3 on the Alberta Elite Hockey League season, return to the Hockey Hounds Arena on Saturday to host the Okotoks Oilers.

U18AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18AA boys team dropped a pair over the weekend, 5-4 to the Wheatland Chiefs on Saturday and 9-4 to the NWCAA Bruins on Sunday.

Brandyn Braid led Medicine Hat on Saturday with a goal and two assists. Everett Liefso had one of each, while Gavin Smith and Brennin Wereley rounded out the scoring with individual tallies. Tyler Wakelam stopped 31 shots.

Jacob Hazzard led Sunday’s offence with a goal and an assist. Wyatt Bower, Connor Palmer and Smith all had singles in the setback. Wakelam was back in the crease, stopped 42 shots in the loss.

The Hounds now sit at 11-15-2 on the South Central Alberta Hockey League season, and return to action Saturday in Strathmore against the Wheatland Chiefs.

U18AA girls

The Southern Express U18AA squad fell in back-to-back games to the Red Deer Chiefs over the weekend, 5-2 Saturday and 5-0 Sunday.

Loreli Ann Norman led Saturday’s scoring with a goal and an assist, while Tate Hutchinson added the other Southern goal and Madilyn Juneau stopped 37 shots in net.

Raine Nelson took the crease Sunday and stopped 42 of 47 shots in the loss.

The Express, now 0-22-0-0 on the Alberta Female Hockey League season, will continue the hunt for a victory on Saturday in Lethbridge against the Rocky Mountain Raiders.

U16AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16AA team went 1-1 over the weekend with a 5-0 loss to the Wheatland Raiders on Saturday and a 4-2 win over the CNHA Northstars on Sunday.

Parker McLaughlin stopped 30 shots in Saturday’s loss, and then added 30 more saves in Sunday’s victory.

Affiliate Eicken Knauer led the Hounds with two goals, while Owen Gustafson and Grady Hudec rounded off the scoring.

The Hounds (11-10-5) are back on the ice Saturday to host the Airdrie-Bow Valley Havoc at the Big Marble Go Centre.

U15AAA boys

SEAC’s U15AAA Tigers also split their weekend with a 5-2 win over the Calgary Royals on Saturday and a 3-0 loss to the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.

Kingston Chisholm led Saturday’s scoring for SEAC with two goals and two assists, while Ty Wasyluk had three helpers, and Brennan Finke, Treyden Kleinknecht and Theron Bensler all added individual markers.

Grady Brost turned away 36 shots to secure the victory.

Hudson Corbett took the crease on Sunday and stopped 37 shots in the 3-0 loss.

The Tigers (4-25-1-0) will host the Lethbridge Golden Hawks on Friday at the Hounds.

U15AA girls

The Southern Express U15AA team dropped a 3-1 contest to the Red Deer Chiefs on Sunday.

Myla Motz scored the lone Southern tally and Sutter Reeves stopped 37 shots in goal.

The Express now sit at 6-17-0-0 on the AFHL season. They’re back in action on Feb. 25 and 26 for a pair of rematches against the Chiefs in Lethbridge.

U13AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U13AA boys hockey team fell 6-3 to the Wheatland Braves on the road Friday.

Carter Gilchrist, Chase Droeske and George Maser all scored in the loss.

Bryden Tschritter stopped 15 of 21 shots through the first 27 minutes, then Paxton Smigelski entered and turned away all 25 he faced down the stretch.

The Hounds also played Sunday, but results from the game were not available.

Medicine Hat sat 11-15-2 on the SCAHL season following Friday’s loss. They return to the ice Saturday to host the Golden Suns of Taber at the Big Marble Go Centre.
