Minor Hockey roundup: SEAC U15AAA’s snap 13-game slide with two win weekend

South East Athletic Club’s U15AAA Tigers had their best weekend of the season, going 2-1-0 to improve their Alberta Elite Hockey League record to 3-24-1.

The Tigers eked out a 1-0 overtime victory against the Leduc Oil Kings on Friday – snapping a 13-game losing streak – before falling 7-4 to the Sherwood Park Flyers on Saturday then taking a 5-4 win from the Grande Peace Golden Arrow Storm on Sunday.

Kingston Chisholm scored the skid-snapping game-winner on Friday with an unassisted goal four minutes into overtime.

Grady Brost stopped all 24 shots he faced to earn the shutout victory.

Theron Bensler led Saturday’s scoring with a pair of goals, while Chisholm had a pair of assists, Kade Dickie had one of each and Ty Wasyluk added an individual tally.

Hudson Corbett stopped 36 shots in the loss.

Chisholm stepped up to help earn his Tigers another win on Sunday, scoring twice, including the game winner.

Brannan Finke had two assists in the win, while Nixon Kunkel, Curtis Martin and Elijah Fleck rounded out the scoring.

Brost stopped 24 shots for his second win of the weekend.

The Tigers are back in Medicine Hat this weekend to host the Calgary Royals on Saturday and the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.

U15AA girls

The Southern Express U15AA team fell 7-0 to Calgary Fire Red on Sunday in Lethbridge.

Rehn Hall stopped 33 shots in the shutout loss.

The loss drops the Southern Express to 6-16-0-1 on the Alberta Female Hockey League season. The Express return to the ice Sunday to face the Red Deer Chiefs.

U15AA boys

SEAC’s U15AA boys team went 0-1-1 over the weekend with a 4-4 tie against the Foothills Bisons on the road Saturday and a 4-3 home loss to the Red Deer Steel Kings on Sunday.

Jackson Brassard led the Tigers with two goals in Saturday’s tie, while Logan Neuls added a shorthanded goal and an assist, Rhyder Arnold had a pair of helpers and Mavric Ward rounded out the scoring.

Mac Harvey-Zenk stopped 24 shots in the draw.

Ethan Grad led Sunday’s scoring with a goal and two assists, while Brody Dick and Liam Green had individual tallies in the loss.

Kayden Van Ham stopped 28 shots in the Tiger crease.

The Tigers, now 4-19-5 on the SCAHL season, return to the ice Saturday to host the Bow Valley Timberwolves at the Hockey Hounds.

U16AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U16AA squad fell 7-4 to the Wheatland Raiders on Saturday at the Kinplex.

Davin Torgerson had two assists in the loss, while Easton Kurpjuweit, Kian Green, Nolen Sutherland and Grady Ford all scored.

Adam Ranger left the Hounds net after allowing four goals on eight shots through 20 minutes, the Parker McLaughlin entered and turned away 22 of 25 down the stretch.

The loss drops the Hounds to 10-9-5 on the SCAHL season. They’ll be on the road Saturday for a rematch with the Raiders before returning to Medicine Hat Sunday to host the CNHA Northstars.

U17AAA boys

SEAC’s U17AAA Tigers fell 7-2 to the Calgary Northstars on the road Saturday, dropping them to 8-11-2-3 on the AEHL season.

Cash Olson had a goal and an assist in the loss, while Colby Gulliver added Medicine Hat’s other tally.

Kolter Gans stopped 36 shots in the loss.

The Tigers are on the road again this weekend for a pair of games against the Calgary Royals.

U18AA girls

The Southern Express U18AA team dropped a pair over the weekend, falling 11-1 to the Sherwood Park Fury on Saturday and 6-0 to Calgary Fire White on Sunday.

Hudsyn Spencer scored the only goal for the Express Saturday. Madilyn Juneau stopped 31 of 36 shots through the first half of the game, then Raine Nelson closed it out with 23 saves on 29 shots.

Juneau was back in the crease on Sunday, stopping 50 shots in the loss.

The Express, now 0-20-0 on the AFHL season, will face the Red Deer Chiefs in a pair of games this weekend.

U18AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18AA team split its weekend on the road with a 4-2 win over the Golden Suns on Saturday in Taber and a 3-1 loss to the Oilers on Sunday in Okotoks.

The Hounds erased an early 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals – two from Gavin Smith, another from Joey Hackett and an empty-netter from Jacob Hazzard.

Smith Finished the game with three points while Hazzard followed up with a pair.

Tyler Wakelam stopped 29 shots in the win.

The Hounds found themselves in another two-goal hole on Sunday, but were unable to dig their way out. Smith netted Medicine Hat’s lone goal of the day, on the power play from Hazzard.

Wakelam stopped 45 shots in the loss.

The split leaves Medicine Hat sitting 11-13-2 on the SCAHL season entering Saturday’s home game against the Wheatland Chiefs.
