Medicine Hat has a strong representation in the South Zone bowling game this season.

Nine Hatters qualified for the South Zone team at the Southern Alberta 5 Pin Open Championships held Saturday and Sunday at Panorama Lanes.

Larissa Long and David Sisko from Medicine Hat won the women’s and men’s titles respectively. Long topped perennial champion Dianne Violini of Lethbridge by five pins, 4,949 to 4,944 in the 20 game event while Sisko topped Kurtis Deering of Medicine Hat by 25 pins 5,164 to 5,139.

The “Open” means there are no handicaps, so the score a bowler has is the one they finish with.

The South Zone qualifiers form women’s, men’s and mixed teams to compete against Edmonton, Calgary, Central and Northern zones at the provincials in Calgary April 5-8. Provincial winners advance to the Canadian Open Championships May 31 to June 3 in Edmonton.

Other Medicine Hat zone qualifiers are: Tara Seitz, Kara Deering, Torrie Hinzman, Dan Rattai, Rob Price and Troy Seitz.
