Tigers fall in overtime Saturday in Moose Jaw

By James Tubb on January 28, 2023.

The Medicine Hat Tigers hardship in extra time continued into Saturday in Moose Jaw.

The Tigers lost 3-2 in overtime against the Warriors to open their two game Saskatchewan road trip weekend.

Oasiz Wiesblatt opened the scoring for Medicine Hat 14:09 into the first period, finishing off a mini breakaway pass from Andrew Basha. Bogdans Hodass had the second assist on Wiesblatt’s 17th goal of the year and only offence of the first period as Medicine Hat outshot Moose Jaw 13-8.

The Warriors were the only team to get on the board in the second, drawing the game to a 1-1 tie on Atley Calvert’s 28th goal of the year coming 14:54 into the period. Moose Jaw outshot Medicine Hat 15-13 in that frame.

The Tigers jumped ahead early in the third period with a top shelf goal from captain Owen MacNeil. He received a pass from Brayden Boehm before scoring his seventh of the year at the 7:29 mark. They carried the lead throughout the majority of the period and pushed for a two-goal lead.

It was the Warriors who found the back of the net next, with Martin Rysavy scoring his fourth of the season with 4:15 left in the game for the 2-2 draw. Neither team found a crack in the tie until 40 seconds into overtime when Jagger Firkus scored on a power play for the game winner.

In net for the Tigers, Beckett Langkow made 29 saves in his 38th start of the season. Across the ice from him, Connor Unger made 34 saves.

The Tigers (18-21-7-1) are back in action Sunday when they head to Regina to battle the Pats in a 3 p.m. MST contest.
